ITINERARY

Day trip My Son & countryside Hoi An

7:00am pick up at your hotel to take a drive to explore the 4th century Cham religious sanctuary of My Son, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. My Son, whose inhabitants practiced a branch of Hinduism, was once the political and religious capital of the Champa Kingdom. My Son is an exceptional example of Hindu architecture. Located in a verdant valley protected by mountains, the settlement was abandoned in the 15th century. While a small site, the ruins at My Son are the largest and most intact remaining in Vietnam. Return to Hoi An in the late afternoon and explore the surrounding countryside by bicycle, including Thanh Ha Pottery Village to visit a ceramics workshop where artisans use age-old techniques. Continue to Tra Que, an herb-growing village, stopping en route to visit tombs of Japanese traders from centuries past. The country road to Tra Que winds through rice paddies and rural landscapes. At Tra Que, see the traditional gardening methods of herbs and vegetables. Return to the Hoi An late afternoon.
